FROM THE FOUNDER
Desiree Woodson is the founder of Opportunity Builders NYINC, an organization dedicated to supporting youth and families as they build stability, resilience, and long-term opportunity. The organization was created from a deep understanding of the challenges many families face, and from a commitment to providing meaningful support, guidance, and resources to those navigating difficult circumstances.
Raised in a single-parent household and influenced by a family history connected to foster care, Desiree developed an early awareness of how critical stable support systems are in shaping a child’s future. These experiences helped form her perspective on resilience, the importance of community, and the life-changing impact of compassionate intervention.

As a young mother, she gained firsthand insight into balancing significant responsibilities while continuing to pursue personal and professional growth. Over the years, she has persevered through major life challenges, including serious health battles, which strengthened her resolve to pursue her goals and expand her impact in the community.
Currently, Desiree is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Sociology and a concentration in Human Services and Advocacy. Her academic journey reflects a commitment to aligning professional education with years of hands-on community work. By combining lived experience with formal training, she is strengthening the foundation of Opportunity Builders NYINC and preparing to broaden its reach.
Opportunity Builders NYINC was established to serve youth and families who often face systemic barriers and limited access to resources. The organization focuses on supporting:
• Youth aging out of foster care (ages 18–24)
• Families experiencing hardship, instability, or crisis
• Youth and families impacted by disability and special needs
• Individuals seeking advocacy, mentorship, and life guidance
Through community-centered programs and personalized support, Opportunity Builders NYINC works to empower individuals and families to achieve greater stability, independence, and hope for the future.
